I 've spent many years in lots of bands playing all over northern and southern California. At the end of the night you might pocket anywhere from 50.00 to 150.00 bucks per man, for an hours work. I submit that within a 3 song kick ass performance, you can give away 20 cds and simply take donations.

I'm curious to know what steps artists are taking to tap into the Chinese music market? 1.3 BILLION potential customers/fans completely untapped. Please share your thoughts.

I've had some luck with a relatively new internet radio site called Jango, essentially "buying" new fans at $1 each and radio plays at 2 cents each.

Like many of you, I'm an independent musician. I started producing my own music when I was 15 and still in high school; I'm 21 now and finishing up an undergraduate degree. Over the last six years, I've gone from not knowing what a synthesizer was and struggling to use my software, to making over five figures from my own music annually.

As an independent artist I was wondering if there were any suggestions that people could give me in regards to getting my music more out to the people?

I was just sitting on the couch waiting for Austin City Limits to
come on, perusing the 2009 Indie Bible (a great book, by the way!)
and came across an article by Janet Fisher called “So How Do We
Make Our Dream Become Reality?” There is a section in this article
that particularly struck me called “Rewrite

I recently had the chance to interview, Tom Jackson, of Tom Jackson Productions for the CD Baby DIY Musician Podcast(Episode 43 listen here-> http://cdbabypodcast.com/?p=108). Tom’s career as a performance coach runs the whole musical spectrum from working with solo indie artists to chart toppers like Taylor Swift. I’ve also had the pleasure to work with Tom personally, and have seen first hand how his idea of building “moments” into a show works to connect with the audience. This got me thinking, and I had to share a few of my performance pet peeves. They seem pretty obvious, but I have seen artists at all levels commit these offenses over and over again. They definitely work against inviting your audience into a moment.

I have been asking my audience verbally and on signage and cards on tables to text me their email address and comments from their cell phones while I'm on stage and have gathered thousands of emails in a short amount of time without a clip board and without trying to read some drunk's handwriting at 3am!

CD Baby pays the artists living outside the USA via PayPal or check.
Check can be lost or stolen, paypal cuts a little and sometimes has
forwarding problems.
